Job Summary:

We are looking for a Data Engineer with Strong knowledge in database optimisation for our Legacy System Modernisation efforts. This role involves analysing and refactoring existing SQL code, optimising queries and stored procedures, improving ETL processes, and enhancing overall database performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 to 8 years of experience working with large-scale relational databases, Azure Synapse Analytics, data modelling, and legacy system remediation, with a strong sense of ownership in solving complex data challenges, and will work closely with business stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities:

• Analyse, refactor, and optimise legacy SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and ETL processes.
• Improve data quality, consistency, and integrity across existing database systems.
• Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks through query tuning and indexing strategies.
• Modernise legacy database code to align with current best practices and standards.
• Design and implement efficient data models and database structures.
• Monitor database performance and proactively address scalability issues.
• Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and data teams to understand data requirements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for database objects, transformations, and optimisation efforts.
• Support migration initiatives from legacy systems to modern data platforms and cloud environments.

Technical skills:

• Strong SQL Expertise with hands-on experience with SQL Server in modelling and optimizing databases.
• Strong experience in SQL query analysis and optimisation to improve query performance.
• Strong understanding of Data warehousing concepts and ETL/ELT processes.
• Expertise in creating, modifying and optimising stored procedures while guaranteeing proper implementation of Complex business logic.
• Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, data pipeline design and development.
• Knowledge of database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to analyse complex business logic embedded within SQL code.
• Knowledge of Power BI report development and data analysis.

Soft skills:

• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements to technical requirements.
• Strong sense of ownership in the work and taking initiative to deliver the best results.
