Senior Power BI Developer – Lead, Hands-on + Analytics Leadership

Role Summary

The Senior Power BI Developer – Lead will lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards and analytics solutions. This role combines hands-on Power BI development with technical leadership, ensuring high data quality, performance, and usability while partnering closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and backend teams.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Architecture & Leadership

• Lead the design and implementation of Power BI semantic models, datasets, and dashboards.
• Define standards for data modeling, DAX development, visualization best practices, and governance.
• Review dashboards and reports to ensure accuracy, performance, and usability.
• Mentor Power BI developers and provide technical guidance.

Dashboard & Reporting Development

• Design and develop interactive, scalable Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Translate business requirements into effective KPIs, metrics, and visualizations.
• Build reusable measures and calculations using DAX.
• Ensure dashboards follow modern, clean, and executive-friendly design standards.

Data Modeling & Performance

• Design and optimize Power BI data models (star schemas, aggregations).
• Optimize report and dataset performance (DAX tuning, model optimization).
• Work closely with SQL Server / data engineering teams to ensure efficient data sourcing.

Integration & Analytics Enablement

• Integrate Power BI with Microsoft SQL Server, data warehouses, and other data sources.
• Support data validation, reconciliation, and consistency across reports.
• Collaborate with backend, NiFi, and analytics teams for end-to-end data pipelines.

Governance, Security & Deployment

• Implement Power BI security (row-level security, workspace management).
• Support Power BI Service deployments, refresh schedules, and access controls.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and security standards.

Agile & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Partner with business users, product owners, and leadership to define analytics needs.
• Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Communicate insights, limitations, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical

• 7+ years of experience in BI / Analytics, with strong focus on Power BI.
• Expert-level experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and DAX.
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and data modeling.
• Proven ability to build high-performance, enterprise-scale Power BI solutions.
• Experience implementing row-level security (RLS) and governance standards.
• Familiarity with Git-based version control and BI deployment practices.

Analytics & Design

• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts (facts, dimensions).
• Ability to design clear, minimalistic, and executive-ready dashboards.
• Strong data validation and reconciliation mindset.

Soft Skills

• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable working with offshore teams and US stakeholders.
• Experience in Agile / Scrum environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Azure Data Services (Azure SQL, Synapse).
• Exposure to Power BI performance tools (DAX Studio, Tabular Editor).
• Experience working with NiFi or other data ingestion tools.
• Familiarity with enterprise data governance frameworks.
